About Benoa (Bali)

Benoa port on Bali's southern peninsula is the island's main cruise gateway — and Bali, the Island of the Gods, is one of the most visited and beloved destinations in Southeast Asia. From the port it's 20–30 minutes to Kuta Beach and the Seminyak boutiques, 30–40 minutes to Ubud's terraced rice paddies and monkey forests, and a similar run to the sea-cliff temples of Uluwatu. Balinese Hindu culture infuses every street corner with offerings, gamelan music, and ornate temple ceremonies.

A 10th-century purification temple where Balinese Hindus bathe in spring-fed holy pools in a ritual of spiritual cleansing — a moving and respectful cultural experience 55 min north of Benoa near Ubud.

  • Babi guling (suckling pig) — Bali's most famous dish: whole pig slow-roasted over coconut husks with turmeric and lemongrass; found at warungs (small eateries) near Ubud market.
  • Nasi campur — a Balinese mixed rice plate with small portions of several dishes including satay, tempeh, and spiced vegetables; the best are from family-run warungs.
  • Lawar — a traditional minced meat and green bean salad seasoned with grated coconut, garlic, and chilli; intensely aromatic.
  • Jamu (herbal tonic) — a turmeric, ginger, and tamarind wellness drink sold by street vendors; said to cool and cleanse in the tropical heat.
