Celukan Bawang is a small commercial port on Bali's north coast, used by cruise ships as a quieter alternative to the busier Benoa in the south. It offers a different angle on Bali: the north is cooler, less developed, and home to the scuba-diving mecca of Tulamben (site of the USAT Liberty shipwreck), the black-sand beaches of Lovina, and the mountain-lake temples around Bedugul — all far less crowded than the southern resort strip.
Organise a private car and driver through the ship or a trusted local operator before arrival — taxis are scarce around Celukan Bawang, the port has no pier facilities, and the best sights (Tulamben, Bedugul) are 45–90 minutes away in opposite directions, so advance planning determines how much you see.
