About Fort De France

Fort-de-France is the capital of Martinique, a slice of France in the eastern Caribbean — euros, baguettes, and superb rhum agricole. The lively town has markets, gardens, and waterfront forts, while the island beyond offers the brooding Mount Pelée volcano, the ruins of old St-Pierre, lush botanical gardens, and the southern beaches of Les Salines. Creole-French culture makes it one of the Caribbean's most distinctive ports.

Remember it's France — bring euros (or a card) and time lunch for a proper Creole meal. The little ferry from the terminal across to Trois-Îlets is the quickest, prettiest way to reach a good beach without a long drive.
