Kotor sits at the head of a dramatic fjord-like bay, where a tiny walled medieval town huddles beneath sheer mountains laced with switchback fortifications. The sail-in alone — gliding past stone villages and steep green slopes — is one of the Adriatic's great cruise moments. Climb the 1,350 steps to the fortress for a heart-stopping view, then lose yourself in the car-free old town's squares and cats.
Be on deck for the sail-in — winding through the Bay of Kotor is as good as the port itself. If you climb to the fortress, go early with water and good shoes; the steps are uneven and there's little shade.
