About Nafplio

Nafplio is widely called Greece's prettiest town — the first capital of the modern Greek state, a romantic tangle of neoclassical streets, bougainvillea, and Venetian forts on a Peloponnese bay. It's also the gateway to two giants of antiquity: the Bronze-Age citadel of Mycenae and the perfectly preserved ancient theatre of Epidaurus. Elegant, walkable, and far from the cruise crowds.

You can climb the ~900 steps up Palamidi for the views, or save your legs with a short taxi to the top and walk down. Mycenae and Epidaurus are both close — a guided combo makes the most of a port day in the Peloponnese.
