About Nha Trang

Nha Trang is Vietnam's beach capital — a crescent bay of calm turquoise water backed by a long, palm-lined boulevard and ringed by green hills and offshore islands, with a beach that rivals any in Southeast Asia. Cruise ships anchor off the bay and tender into a small pier in the city centre, putting the beach, Po Nagar Cham Towers, and the waterfront almost immediately at hand. The offshore island cluster is a top draw for snorkeling, while the city's French-colonial history and Vietnamese seafood scene round out an excellent port day.

Insider Tip

The famous 4-island boat tours are lively and affordable, but if you prefer quieter snorkeling book a private or small-group tour direct to Hon Mun reserve only — the party boats circle noisily and can disturb the reef; book through a guesthouse rather than pier touts for a guaranteed price.

Highlights
🏖
Nha Trang Beach
A 7-km arc of fine golden sand along Tran Phu Boulevard — one of the finest urban beaches in Asia, with beach clubs, volleyball nets, and clear, calm water for swimming.
🛕
Po Nagar Cham Towers
Four red-brick towers built between the 7th and 12th centuries by the Cham kingdom, perched on a granite hill above the Cai River — an active Hindu-Buddhist site with sweeping city views; 10 min from the tender pier.
🤿
Offshore Island Snorkeling Cluster
A short boat ride from the tender pier to Hon Mun Marine Protected Area — the richest coral reefs in Vietnam, with visibility of 15+ metres on a clear day.
🌊
Mud Bath & Hot Spring at Thap Ba
Soak in warm mineral mud pools and cascading hot springs at Thap Ba — a uniquely Vietnamese spa experience 5 km north of the city centre.
🏯
Long Son Pagoda & White Buddha
A hilltop pagoda with a large seated white Buddha visible from much of the city — inside are elaborate mosaic dragon stairways and murals; 10 min by taxi from the tender pier and free to visit.
Local Food & Drink
  • Bun cha ca (fish cake noodle soup) — Nha Trang's signature dish: a clear lemongrass broth with handmade fish cakes and rice vermicelli; found at market stalls from morning.
  • Nem nuong Nha Trang — grilled pork sausage rolls wrapped in rice paper with fresh herbs; the city's most famous street snack.
  • Fresh seafood at Cho Dam (Dam Market) — steamed prawns, clams with lemongrass, and grilled lobster direct from the fishing boats, wildly affordable.
  • Banh mi from a street cart — Vietnam's iconic French-colonial baguette sandwich loaded with pate, pickled vegetables, and fresh chilli; the Nha Trang version often includes fresh grilled pork.
