About Phuket

Phuket is Thailand's largest island and its most famous beach destination — a heady mix of jungle-backed limestone cliffs, vibrant beach towns, gilded temples, and the turquoise Andaman Sea. Cruise ships dock at Phuket Deep Sea Port on the island's northeast tip, putting Old Phuket Town's Sino-Portuguese shophouses about 30 minutes south and the west-coast beaches (Patong, Kata, Karon) 45–60 minutes by road. It's a port that genuinely rewards both a quick beach day and a deeper cultural dive.

The west-coast beaches (Patong, Kata, Karon) look close on a map but take 45–60 minutes by road from the pier through traffic; hire a metered taxi or a pre-booked Grab rather than a pier-side tuk-tuk, which will charge triple and try to stop at gem shops.

The iconic limestone karsts of the Phi Phi islands — where The Beach was filmed — are reachable by speedboat in around 45 minutes from the pier. Book a full-day tour; snorkeling among the coral is outstanding.

Paddle through hidden sea caves and hongs (collapsed limestone chambers open to the sky) in Phang Nga Bay — James Bond Island is the famous landmark here. A half-day from the pier.

Promthep Cape
The southern tip of the island frames a classic Phuket sunset over the Andaman Sea; the small shrine and sweeping panorama make it a worthwhile final stop before returning to the ship.
