Nidaros Cathedral opens early and fills with tour groups by mid-morning — arrive within the first 30 minutes of port arrival for a near-empty nave and the best light on the west facade's carvings.

The medieval Archbishop's Palace beside Nidaros Cathedral is Scandinavia's oldest secular stone building and now houses two museums: the coronation regalia (crowns, orbs, sceptres) and a superb medieval stone sculpture collection.

Trampe Bicycle Lift & City Cycle
Trondheim's famous Trampe bicycle lift carries riders up the steep Brubakken hill on a moving footrest — a genuine engineering quirk and a fun way to reach Kristiansten Fortress. City bikes are available across the centre.

Local Food & Drink

Bacalao trondheimsk — Trondheim's own preparation of salted cod, slow-cooked with tomatoes, olives, and capers; a city staple with Iberian origins from the fish-trading era.
Lamb dishes from Trondelag — the inland valleys supply superb quality lamb; look for lamb rib (pinnekjott) or chops at the Ravnkloa fish market.
Sveler — thick, slightly sweet Norwegian pancakes sold from street stalls and cafes near the market square, best eaten warm with sour cream.
