Grand Bahama, anchored by Freeport, is the Bahamas' northern island — flatter and quieter than Nassau, with long beaches, a cave-laced national park, and the marketplace and beaches of Lucaya. The port itself is industrial, but a short ride reaches turquoise water, dolphin encounters, and the famous Gold Rock Beach. It's an easy, beachy port day close to the US.
The harbour is industrial, so plan a short taxi to Lucaya or the beaches. Gold Rock Beach is stunning at low tide but about 45 minutes east — worth it on a tour, otherwise Lucaya's beaches are the easy choice.
