South Plaza is a small, uninhabited island off Santa Cruz in the Galápagos where you'll encounter Galápagos sea lions lounging on rust-red volcanic rock and endemic land iguanas in their natural habitat. This is one of the few places in the archipelago where wet landings put you face-to-face with wildlife in a compact, easily walkable setting. The island's dramatic geology—with towering cliffs and audacious red soil—creates a stunning backdrop for some of the Galápagos' most accessible wildlife viewing.
Bring a polarizing filter for your camera—it dramatically reduces glare off the water and volcanic rock, making wildlife and landscape photos significantly sharper. Also, wear reef shoes or water sandals for wet landings; the volcanic rock is sharp, and you'll wade through 1–3 feet of water to reach shore.
